Penpals May & Myrrh

My first non-fanart project in 3D (which I started working on back in December) is finally done, just in time for #Mermay.

May and her pen-pal Myrrh share art back-and-forth every spring when their families travel to the coast.

Here's a better look at the character models. They aren't animation quality (they require a lot of cleaning up distorted geometry every time you change their pose) but I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

Some turntable rotations with pretty water caustics.

Here's a closer look at some smaller details, including some very well rigged feet, and pruney mermaid fingers. May's art style is just me doing my best at a style I'm not very proficient in. #RocktheBoardwalk2019

Trying to give a fictional character their own art style and handwriting is an interesting challenge. I figured May would be a talented but inexperienced artist. To accomplish this, I just tried drawing in an anime style that I'm not super proficient in.
